oil deflector

today I fitted an oil deflector plate on top of the camshaft on my mk1 gti, in order to prevent the filter in the cover getting clogged.
It did this about 10/12 years ago to my other mk1 ,a GLS automatic to prevent getting the carb. dirty.
This plate is also a factory fitting to a G60 and diesel engines.
Anyone tried this before?? It only cost 17euro, and I dont think it would do any harm…..
