Just engine removal

Hi, is it possible just to remove the engine 1.8 dx, and not the gearbox ? I have a engine hoist hoping to do it tomorrow morning. Thanks

Don't think you'll physically have enough space to disengage the gearbox from the clutch unless the gearbox mounts are removed and the driveshafts too. By all means once its disconnected you could leave the gearbox in the engine bay and lift out the engine.

you can remove the engine without removing gearbox but you do have to support gearbox cause you do have to remove mounts but as for drive shafts they can stay where they are it is a bit tight to be honest but can be done     

I know some people will either find this strange or maybe get a kick out of it, but I have to agree with paul here (never was an issue with agree or dis-agree anyway). Without removing the axles and the mounts the transmission can not be shifted over enough to lift the engine, the other way works for dropping the transmission from under though. Not sure of the exact distance needed, about 6" or there abouts to clear the clutch pack, but the engine will only move about 2" until it hits the frame rail. So once you have removed the axles and mounts you might as well just lift the whole package out and seperate it on the floor (table or whatever).

Thanks lads for advice,just finished removing the engine and gearbox did it in one go, out the top, what a it was. Down pipe nuts x6 all solid two snapped off had to get grinder and cut through the down pipe then it was plane sailing. Hope it goes back in ok. Now have to remove the donar engine and fit before the weather turns.Thanks once again

glad to hear its all out mate and as for right or wrong i do aggree with the masses it is easyer to take all out together hope it all goes in easy enough any more info you need just ask were all here to help each other
