I killed my car

Well i knew i had an oil leak so it's kind of my fault. I just didn't think it was as bad as it was. The jist anyway is that i ran out of oil while driving and it stopped. I've topped up the oil. I'm thinking of disconnecting the spark plugs, and pushing it around a bit while in gear to get the oil flushed round the engine. But i think it'll be a waste of time and the engine's totalled by now anyway.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

does it make a terrible knocking noise when the engine turns over?

if so, chances are it is the big ends that have gone.=bad news.

Trust me mate if your engine stopped  it is terminal,sorry but time for a new lump! :cry:

Try starting it up, you've nothing to loose now. Possibly heat seized or something major broken inside :dontknow:

What good is removing the spark plugs  

Strip the engine and check the condition. Some parts might be ok.

If it ran out of oil and stopped then it's knackered. Don't even bother trying to salvage any internals, the only thing this engine is now fit for is over the scales at the scrapyard.

I'll have you know I have qualifications in Wine and its production - I'm offering to take it for you to 'test' each of those gallons just to make sure it isn't tainted or oxidised.  I'm just trying to look after your health Wooders.

Have to agree with those here who have said its spanked.. i have tried what you have suggested a couple of times with cars i used to "race" round our farm. It doesnt work, i even tried as you suggested taking the plugs out to help lower the compression and get WD40 in the bores.. its a waste of time.

I did seize a datsun cherry, let it cool then put new oil in it and got it turning over.. but as soon as it fired up it seized again and then refused to do anything other than go "click" "click" when you turned the key.

Shall I buy another mk1 gti engine from a scrappy, or do something new and ingeneous? If so how much is it going to cost me?

I think there's a few people on here with engines for sale, thought I saw one (1.6 GTI) for about 50 notes in the for sale section. There should be a few around if you look.

Exactly same as mine was.
was doing 120mph for ages down a main road.
ran out of oil i think, head gasket went and took all the water too.
Had to get a new engine fitted.

people did say try the oil in the bores thing and rock it, never tried it, now the block is getting fixed and rebored by a specialist….sold it to a mate, up to you, better go for new one i think though
