high oil temp

someone help please  i own a mk1 golf 1.8gti which ofcourse i adore
but were going thru a bit of a love hate relationship at the moment shes giving me a bit of trouble…..started off by blowing top rad hose…..not a problem friendly gsf were able to pretty much source replacements for all the hoses

so i replaced with a new one….so that shouldnt be the problem……but i dont know what to try next

i really want to be able to drive my car again without one eye on the oil temp and one on the engine temp as this leaves me with no eyes to look where im going…..please heeeeeeeeeelllllllpppppppp….

Are you relying on the MFA guage for the oil temp ? Is your engine is running sweet and doesn't use oil or coolant don't panic . MFA readings can be way out its an old system and you might be better using a separate guage . During very hot weather i have seen 130 + on the mfa but the engine is still running sweet and coolant normal .
Use a good quality oil and filter check the temp with a separate guage .

My 1.8GTi manual says 'The engine speed should be reduced if the oil temperature rises to + 145'C.' so I think you're ok for the minute. But that does sound quite a high temp. On my 9 hour trip back from london mine peaked at 110'c but was normally around 90. What type of oil are you using? when was it last changed?

changed the oil when i did the head gasket used magnatex oil or something like that??????and the air filter is all clean(but do have a induction kit to fit..will try this also)....timing is out a bit i believe as she seems a bit putt putty?
under load.....may this be a part of the problem?readings are off the mfa but havent drove it long enough to see a reduction in the water or oil but after the test drive i opened the bonet and the whole engine bay felt and smelt very warm and this was after about 5mins driving there was also oil splashes which seemed to of spurted from the top of the dipstick :dontknow:

in the top of the rocker cover there is a gause, clean that out - lots of brake cleaner works very well - and then make sure you oil coolers actually opening, when the oil temps hot touch the oil pipes and cooler (above 110deg) they should be hot, if not the stats sticking. - undo the bolts on the front, take out the spring and stat and clean them, again with brake cleaner and wipe round the housing - reset the stat, do back up the bolts.
also remove the temp sender, sit in a bow and pour oiling water in it, then put a thermometer in it and see what it reads and check this against the mfa, - mine reads 6deg high.
another thing is move the sender. mine now sits on a sandwich plate between the oil filter and housing, and agai this improved the accuracy of the temp as its in the main oil stream.
