My cabby Gti has been struggling to start and seems to be getting worse now.
Turn ignition on, fuel pump primes then the engine fires but cuts out straight away. Does this 3 or 4 times and then starts but sounds like it’s only firing on a couple of cylinders, couple of seconds later all cylinders are firing and it’s good as goldTake it out for a drive and it’s totally fine, no hesitation or lumpiness, no smoke from the exhaust. Idles perfectly and starts up again after stopping with no problems. Can’t find any leaks on the vacuum side either. I normally take it out once a week for a good hour long drive to get everything nice and warm.
Its a DX engine and has been completely rebuilt about 8 years ago and has a new fuel tank, new fuel lines and new injectors. Has a Jetex exhaust and a 4 branch manifold but don’t think this would affect the starting issue? The only thing I didn’t replace was the fuel pump but that seems to be working fine.
Not sure what to try really.?
Any suggestions would be great!

Make sure that the timing is spot on.
Then
I would start at residual pressure tests as outlined in the Bentley.
I have had fuel flow limiting when my 93 Fuel pressure regulator was malfunctioning and putting most of the fuel back to the tank. There was insufficient pressure in the fuel rail to push out the injectors, and one or 2 of them would occasionally squirt in to the head.
The residual pressure tests nailed the Fuel Pressure regulator as the issue.
It sounds like the problem on your computer where the power supply faults and is asked to power things up prior to the power supply fully coming up Like when you power it off and right back on…

Try unplugging the 5th fuel injector electrical connection (blue plug) and see if that makes any difference?
