GTI started to idle high??

My mk1 Cab Gti is stored in teh garage a lot lately, its a little damp in there to.

Well Ive noticed that recently trhe idle sits at about 2000 RPM, Ive backed off the little adjuster on the throtle linkage, but no joy in dropping off the idle speed??

Any Ideas? I can find any other adjuster???

The adjuster is at the back of the throttle body, you need a 7mm spanner to adjust it. The rubber o ring often perishes in it. You also need to check for airleaks. Has the vacuum advance pipe come off ?

Just popped out the garage and the screw is fully tight…. could possibly be a dodgey oring there

The vacuum advance seems fine

Also notice if I give it some revs the idle starts to sit higher ie 2000rpm??

It must be an air leak.

I had a similar issue once but had no leaks but traced it to this……..
