Hi folks,
Having a problem, any advice would be more than welcome…

Its gradually got worse through the day, started off cutting out at some traffice lights, then again…managed to get the car home and now it cannot keep ticking over unless applying some revs…

i recently had a problem with the dizzy but it doesn't sound like your problem as mine kept cutting out under hard acceleration or when cruising at 70 or above  the tacho needle would just drop to zero and the engine would cut out put new leads cap and rotor on it still no joy new coil still no joy swapped the dizzy for a spare i had and hey presto.

hope that helps

Dizzy is slang for 'distributer' and it's the part on the front or end of the engine (depending on what model engine you got) with the 5 ignition leads going to it, one from the coil, and one to each spark plug. You can get problems with cutting out if the cap and arm are very worn, or dirty or if there's dampness in it. Ocassionally they do go wrong as well, particulalry if the car is high milage and all the parts inside it are worn.
