Coolant capacity of 1781c GTI engine?
I know that i should know this but i have looked in the Haynes manual & It states that UK models with expansion tanks take 6.5ltrs of coolant. After emptying the old stuff out by removing hose from water pump, I have just put 4ltrs of antifreeze in the expansion bottle & filled it with 1ltr of water but can not get any more in. I have done all of the usual things like loosening the top hose on the rad to let any air locks out & run the engine until the fan came on & checked the levels.
How can i get the other 1.5 lts into the system or has the Haynes Bible got it wrong?
If anyone could let me know i would be grateful.

This has happened to me, what I think is happening is that the other 1.5l was already in the engine laying in the bottom of the cooling galleries, bottom of rad etc.
Make sure you have the heater turned on also.
I always flush out the old coolant with a water hosepipe stuffed in every outlet I can find. Then reconnect all the hoses, add antifreeze and then top up with water.
