camshaft timing
are all dx engines, cam timing marks identified by a dot on the inner edge of the camshaft sprocket or do some have a straight line mark...

if its an obvious mark then would think that should be the one. hopefully someone can confirm this

MOTY 2013

all the ones ive worked on have had the dot. its possible sprocket could have been fitted backwards. if in doubt remove the rocker cover, check the cam lobes on piston 1 point like this when lined up to TDC marks:

when i had to set up my timing someone on here put an un-depth instruction step-by-step guide on what to do and how to do it. i cant remember who it was but it was very useful, i set the timing up using the dot on the outer face of the pulley which was wrong. on the other side of the pulley there should be a line cut in, and this is what you have to use. make sure the line is horizontal to the top of the head facing forwards. hope this helps

yes mine too had a rectangular indentation on the rim of the sproket next to the cylinder head. There was a dot on the other side, but that was a red herring...

Hi All.
With regards to the timing about i also tried the "red herring" turned by hand no hitting of valves etc! but wouldn't start then i notice d the rectangle i set it to the edge of the cylinder head straight edge! It sprung to life but made a tappety sound???? Could it be i'm a tooth out either way?
Thanks
Neil
