Hi!
Im figuring out how to NOT detonate my engine and send me into a complete meltdown. I think im on the right track, i just wanna check
with you guys if im right.
Nr1 cylinder should be at TDC and the little nod on the camgear should be level with the top of the valvecover? Then i just fit the belt, tighten it and give it a go?
Ive google ALOT, and tried searching other threads, but it's not the info im looking for..

Haynes manual tells you all you need to know with pictures, what year is your car as the timing mark on the cam shaft is different for later cars.
Also check the dissy rotor arm is in the right place as there is a little mark on the body and make sure it's pointing to the HT lead going to No.1.
I find either it goes on and lines up 1st time or I spend the next 1/2 hour trying to line up the cogs as the intermediate shaft (one turning the dissy ) moves very easy.
Once fitted if it sounds like you have a supercharger fitted the cam belt is to tight.

Thanks!
One problem though.. When ive lined up the engine so that the nr1 cyl. is in top position (the round mark on the flywheel points straight up), and the mark on the camgear is where it should be (just above the seal), and ive put on the belt and tensioned it, when i turn the engine around it poofs.. And when i go to check the mark on the camgear again, when the mark on the flywheel is dead center, it points way off.. Why is this?

Not 100% sure what you mean but you need to turn the twice, eg carry on Turing it by hand till the marks line up second time around.
If the rocker cover is off check that both cams on the camshaft are not pushing down on the valves or you are 180 degrees out.

and if its not as above, 180 degrees out on the valvetrain remove the camshaft pulley and check the woodruff key and slots are ok
