1.8 GTI 8V intermediate driveshaft bearing

Fully stripped down the engine for new seals etc.  On removing the intermediate driveshaft I've found that the outer/front bearing has a severe crack and deteriorated.

Has anyone replaced one of these before?

Is it a case of popping it out and refitting another or is it an engineering job with heat treatment etc?

Cheers for any help!!!

Desperate!

What's the aux drive shaft, is it the shaft that drives the distributor ? Any good bearing place will be able to supply the end bearing if needed.

Yeah, it drives the dizzy and all that.  I'm going to give VW a call tomorrow but you know how helpfull and knowledgable they can be so thought I'd ask on here.

So if you can't buy them what can I do? :dontknow:

Look in the Yellow pages under bearing manufacturers or something like that, independents will carry stocks of virtually everything or be able to get it. I had a totally obscure bearing off a kawasaki and the place I went to matched it right up. Try someone like these guys - Acorn Industrial Services. Products & solutions for industry

Just a quick update and to help any others that may have this problem.

Didn't have any luck with Acorn, VW or any other place in the UK.

In the end I had to order the bearing from this place in the US

You have to call them as they don't do E-mail enquiries but they were really helpfull and have pretty much everything for a VW (except arch mouldings  )

searched around a bit and came accross these:

supplies by SMILES ENGINEERING in newcastle.

apparently they are the oe supplier to vw so are of decent quality!
