Which distributor..?

I believe the replacement engine has come out of an early GTi as it doesn't have any alignment pins for the head gasket on the block. Currently it has a 026 905 205AG distributor fitted, which I think is the GTi version, but I need to remove it anyway as it's not aligned correctly so the intermediate shaft timing mark doesn't line up…
Should I replace it with a carb dizzy (026 905 205H?) or will it be OK with the GTi one? Some searching on here implies the vacuum advance characteristics differ but I'm not sure exactly how.
The plan is to run it in with my spare Weber DMTL on the stock inlet manifold and then swap over to a pair of Weber 40DCNFs on my Hartmann Motorsport manifold once it seems happy and ready for more aggressive tuning. Will I need to swap the flywheel for the carb one at the same time to make timing easier?
Thanks in advance!

a kjet GTI dizzy is the one to have, that plus a GTI cam and a re-tune to GTI ignition settings will give you near GTI power levels.
swappign the flywheel isnt needed, you can either make a new 6 degree BTDC marker or get a timign light with an advance dial. tbh you'll probably find you can get a few more degrees extra advance on it anyway they can usually go a bit further once well tuned

Pic of the carb:
All the timing marks line up now I've fiddled about with the dizzy, and with a fresh cambelt on it's not smacking the valves or going out of time so it clearly works. I'd rather replace it with a rebuilt one for peace of mind though, and preferably whatever will give me the most power 😀 Is the K-Jet dizzy 026905206A?
The block's bored to 1.9 and it has a ported hydro head with 40/35mm valves and a 270° Piper cam so I'm expecting a pretty decent amount of shove with the dual carbs fitted :-)
Thanks,
Nick

pick the one which matches your dizzy/coil/spark module loom, or if you have both types of loom/plug to choose from pick whichever dizzy comes up first
be sure to post any other numbers you find, as there are a few different ones which were superceeded/replaced the ones above

also since the unit looks brand new it might be a refurb unit with different internals even…

Are the rev-limiting rotor arms any good or just a gimmick? They make a nice noise…😂
