Warm air deflector pipe missing.....

Hi guys, sorry to bother you again.

Basically here is my air intake unit;

As you can see there isn't a pipe going to the warm air deflector plate (and as far as I'm aware there isn't a warm air deflector plate!).

Car seems to be fine, but what problems might this cause? Anyone know where I can get a deflector plate from, or could i just use some piping to the general area? And I presume it attaches to the back of the exhuast manifold?

Cheers for you time guys, much appreciated

Downs.

Depending if you exhaust manifold still has the studs you could get a plate hopefully from as member on here.

I changed mine to gti manifold and thus had no studs on the left side, simply get some piping from gsf, and run it to exhaust manifold area, job done.
If you can secure it also so not flapping about

Cool. What does it actually do? Obviously deflect warm air! But i mean, I don't notice any problems with the running of my car. Does it mean it'll get warmer quicker because it has more hot air going back through the system?

Stops carb freeze creating on the carb allegedly, I have weber carb on both golf's, but from experience it is the cold air feed on the air box that causes the issues due to where it is located directly to the grill, cold air flowing to carb is ok, but it is when mositure travels up, this causes the moisture, water droplets to mix with the air and fuel in carb, black smoke from exhaust, and chug chug with loss of power, i would have to leave 10 minutes running on idle and wait for the mositure to disappear.
I sorted this as i had this on both my mk1 and mk2 by simply placing a piece of carding on the right side behind grill as to stop moisture traveling up the cold air feed part of air filter box.
Did this a few year ago, been everywhere in any kind of weather and not missed a beat.
I removed both cold air feed pipes from mine so away from grill, and just left the warm air feed connected, as plenty of cold air comes in already

So you're just running the warm air pipe then? No problems with cooling in the summer?

No, has i simply remove the warm air pipe, but that is only if really hot which in manchester is rare trust me lol

I don't suppose you have a picture of your engine bay set up do you? So you have neither of the cold air or the warm air pipes? I must admit this sounds tempting, as I am on a quest to tidy up my engine bay. I live on the south coast, and I can't see it getting crazy hot here!

on my 1.6 i had loads of carb icing problems without this pipe, it seems to be pot luck if you suffer from it or not. i didnt have a cold air pipe eithe, it rotted away.

if you find a later MK2 Golf GTI you'll note they have a much smaller air shroud that is only held on with 2 nuts, and this is easily fitted with everything in place. on my driver both of the studs had sheared off though, so i secured it with a really big jubilee clip!

I tried runnign my 1.6 with a missing shroud and the pipe stuffed back near the exhaust, even that wasnt good enough it would still cut out on me.

It seems to be the damp air that does it, mines a bugger atm.

Why's the pipe going to the air deflector missing? You can just get a new one. You can easily deal with it.

This is an old thread but does anybody have a picture of where the deflector is connected as mine does not seem to be connected to anything?

There's a picture of the warm air feed on my Mk1 Scirocco, there's a bit of metal which bolts onto the exhaust manifold, then it's the flexible pipe to the air intake to the carb.
