urgent help needed!!! how to change idle speed on 1.8 carb

hi,

just got my car back from the MOT, it has passed which is awesome but to get it through the emissions test they have reduced the idle speed to about 300rpm!!! this is obviously not good as the car keeps wanting to cut out, how do i adjust this?

its a 1.8 clipper cab

any help much appreciated

What carbs are you running and why did they not just adjust the mixture screw ?

Why would they do that? Doesn't make sense to me

well thats what i assume they have done, all i know is when i took the car in this morning it was idling around 1000rpm, now it barely stays running!

i think its a pierberg carb, but again not 100% only had the car a week lol

It needs tuning properly, this means check ignition timing, mixture and idle speed at the very least. I'm not sure its particularly helpful to tell you just to raise the idle speed, although it would get you round the immediate problem.

1. Check/adjust ignition timing
2. Check/adjust fuel mixture
3. Check/adjust idle speed
4. Go back to step 2, check mixture.

I'm sure there's a FAQ on the Pierburg carb which will show the idle and mixture adjustment screws.

I recently raised my idle speed by just winding in the throttle cable (move the two nuts on the threaded shaft). Obviously that gives you fractionally less throttle travel but will sort you out while you do the proper tune up.
