speedo cables

hi everyone, are all the speedo cables the same throughout the range of big blocks, as i can remember searching for one last year and got told it was virtually impossible to get one for mine, and it have been left to the elements and is in not so good shape.

and also, i seem to remeber there should be a white plastic bit that fits into the hole in the gearbox that the cable drives, is this right? well i seem to have miss-placed mine, can i still get one of these? or is a second hand jobby?

GSF can supply a new speedo cable no problem.

My local VW dealer had the white gear in stock to go on the end. If that's no good then there are a few places on the net where you can get one.

i can get one for the mk2 not a mk 1, are they the same cables? will this fit if i bought it?

GSF list the following - as you can see it's the same part for all. They can definitely supply you one of these, as I bought one recently.

They give a different part number for the Mk2 cable so I would imagine it is a different part and is not compatible.
