Servicing

I bought a Clipper in September and I love the Car, so I want it to be maintained as well as possible. I went to the VW dealer and asked for a quote on a 80k service, they said ?320 incl brake fluid change. But I said that it has a small oil leak from somewhere and they said they would charge me a ?75+vat diagnosis fee per hour to look at it. I thought the idea of a service was to chesck if there is anything wrong with the car and advice the owner accordingly?!!!

Anyone know any decent servicing places near Chester, would ideally like A VW specialist, but not essential. Could you also give me a rough price of what I should be expected to pay for such a service? My friend has reccomended a place near Dorking, but its a little to far. I've got about ?250 aside for servicing and parts, bearing in mind the car is running sweet and I dont think any thing major is wrong, do you think I need to save up?

Cheers.

Always better to do things preventatively then wait till they cause a more serious problem. VW dealers, as with most main dealers, will always cost far more than independent garages. In my experience main dealers are as likely to be cowboys as any independent.

Scan the Yellow Pages etc for independent VW garages and check them out. Rarely use garages now as try to do most things myself, but a quite decent garage I used up till a year ago charged ?40 an hour labour compares favourably to VW's ?75  8O .
