Please help...

hi, im new to the site and posted something on a different part and someone said to put it on here,…
 ive got a mark 1 cabriolet 1.8 carb  and ive been having a few problems with it, a while ago it just kept cutting out and no garage new why, they fixed several different things thinking that was the problem and it still did it, my father in law then took it to a friend who had a faff with it and took some pipes off the carb cos there were 4 too many aparently. he also ajusted something and the cutting out stopped…

now tho its revving itself and gets higher and starts ticking over at 15'000 revs! its also very juddery almost feeling like im in too high a gear, (but im not) then once i park up and actually take the key out the ignition it revs again!?!

im at abit of a loss with it now and am getting very frustrated with it, please help me work out whats wrong as i no nothing about cars

Beats me how supposed garages cant even deal with a carb ona golf, theyre hardly Bugatti veyron technology!

Get yourself a haynes manual for the golf and have a read thru it.
Nothing worse than not knowing how something works and itll save you a wedge when and if it goes wrong by doing it yourself.

ano its crazy int it that they wo just totally baffled! supposed mechanics! cant do owt if it int on a computer these days!
