Pedal problems. (with pic)

I've noticed recently my accelerator pedal had developed a squeak and that the kick down wasn't working too well either. I checked the pedal and found that its actually breaking away from the bulkhead. The bulkhead itself doesn't look too rusted but there are cracks on 2 sides of the pedal fixing (below and to the right from the inside of the car.) Now the pedal doesn't depress directly downwards and so misses the pedal stop and causes the lack of kick down.

To the point… How screwed am I lol? Will it need welding or could I cheat slightly and kinda sandwich the bulkhead with a metal plate either side to fix the pedal bolt through? …Would it pass an MOT too?

Here's a pic anyway, the arrows highlight the cracks.

EDIT: I can't figure out how to embed the image so here's a link to it: http://img254.imagesha…p?image=dsc00120v2lp1.jpg

Needs a renforcing plate i should say.
Cant see it being much trouble and shouldnt take long to rectify for a skilled person. :)

Cracks around the clutch cable are very common - there must be loads of threads about this on the site, but I've never seen this happen to the accelerator pedal mounting…guess a similar repair would be possible - fix (preferably weld) a suitable bit of plate to the bulkhead and rebolt the mounting. The bulkehead seems a bit prone to cracking…but then it is getting a bit old i suppose…

Well I thought I'd have a look at the pedal again today. So I unbolted it from the bulkhead and this is what I found:

Looks like it had happened to the owner before me and they'd tried a quick fix.
For the time being I've put a huge washer either side of the bulkhead to keep the pedal in place so atleast it's driveable. I'm kinda surprised though that I didn't notice something up earlier cos I've actually gained about 1500 revs from doing this as the pedals sitting straight. (It rarely went past 3.5k-4k revs before!) …I'M NOT HAVING A 1.1 CORSA BEAT ME AWAY FROM THE LIGHTS AGAIN!
On the flipside though I can now see how poo the brakes are!

Thanks for your quick replies everyone too. A simple yet very satisfying job done. …for now!
