Manifold - help needed

Been having a problem with engine noise from my mk1 cabriolet. Had it checked out and the guy told me that the manifold has gone and needs replacing. Just wanted to get an idea of how big a job this is and how much i should expect to pay - any comments much appreciated.

To replace the exhaust manifold, you really need to get in from underneath, it is virtually impossible from above-although someone will disagree.

Moreover it does depends where the manifold has failed, try surfing through the forum as there have been a few posts on this problem recently.
