On carbs you only have the one fuel pump which is located at front bottom area of block just above the oil filter.
Clean your tank out as there will be small piece of rust from filler neck in past for sure, have you replaced the filler neck? or has it been replaced in past?
remove fuel sender form underneath the rear bench, there is a small filer on the end wit approx 16 tiny holes, you can simply pull it off and clean it out, whatever you do DO NOT leave it off, refit it.
Then if not been done replace the fuel air vapor separator which is located middle front of block near rocker cover.
Clean the carb i.e remove it and keep it upside down as you do so, therefore no dirt will end up back in the carb.
You got any pics of your carb and block area please for me to look at?
Clean air filter or replace if you have standard paper type

Another option is the vacuum cleaner but it needs to be an explosion-proof one.
