I'm no expert but it sounds like dodgy gunk in the fuel if you ask me. Did you let it run low on fuel recently? If so it could bin clogging the fuel filter.

Yep, carb icing.

I had the same on my clipper.

2 checks,

One to make sure the flap inside the filter housing stays open.

A 'Feature' of the carb engines means the flap should stay closed to draw warm air from the manifold up to about 35 degrees (Not even our summers are that good!)

There is a vacuum valve inside the duct that should lift it, but over the years, that gets tired and flops.

Cold air is bad, so a quick fix is to screw the flap shut from the underneath. I did this and never had problems again.

Another one to watch which all of us carb guys know, is to make sure the convoluted hose (The flexy one) had no holes or splits in and is attached securely to the manifold bracket.  This is to get as much warm air as possible.

Never fear cold again!

Might be carb icing but if it was you wouldn't need 20 min on a hot engine for it to go away?

Still possible you have or had a rotten fuel filler and a tank full or water and muck :dontknow:

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

hi, i checked the fuel tank and the fuel lines, the tank looks new with no muck at all. The fuel that cam out of the fuel lines was totally clean!

think ive had similar problem to you, seem to have fixed mine for 100 miles, cleaned my oil breather pipe as it was filled with gunk.

worth a go. At the same time, i bypassed the fuel reservoir seperator for 5 miles then plugged back into it again so could have been that too.
