probably a simple question or maybe you'll just think I'm simple lol had a buzzing day so far my clipper passed its MOT this morning after being off the road for 4 years so that was buzzing no.1 ! On the way home buzzing No. 2 started ! the oil light and warning buzzer came on ? now I know theres enough oil in the car as Ive checked that, whilst driving if I dip the clutch and blip the revs it goes off but soon returns! could this be a faulty sensor as the car hasnt been run properly for so long or could it be something more sinister ??
Also where is the sensor located and how would I check if its that or is it easy to get a replacement?
Sorry really ought to change the title from question to questions haha
Many thanks in advance of any help you guys rock !!!

Its either a faulty sensor, there is two on my car (GTi Cabriolet), one above the oil filter and one on the side of the head, they are cheap to buy so might be worth trying some new ones and if no different you have some spares as the do leak oil after a few years. One sensor is blue the other one is white.
Or I expect if the car has been stood for some time there is either gunk and bits blocking the oil pump pick up in the sump, or the oil pump is worn. Not a hard job to change it, its just a bit of a pain to get to the bolts on the sump at the gearbox end as there is not much room to get a tool in there, BECAREFUL putting the bolts back in as its really easy to cross thread them.
I think there is a guide on here somewhere no how to test the oil pressure sensors…
Have you changed the oil and filter before getting the car back on the road?

Our car has been off the road for three years, and took the car for mot, it failed on emissions, so the mechanic decided to change the oil (I had changed oil and filter with synthetic less than hundred miles before taking car off the road so not massively impressed)
picked the car up and drove to halfords to get a new stereo, and warning buzzer started going, hadn't done this on way to mot test.
bought some oil at halfords and put maybe a fifth of a litre in and hasn't gone off since.
the car does leak oil from around the filter area, I thought it may be coming from the oil filter carrier (or whatever it is called) but after reading this I am wondering if it is the oil pressure switch.

It always amazes me that when a warning device operates on a piece of equipment, whether its a car or a 65 ton excavator they automatically assume that the warning device is at fault, rather than, "its doing its job and I need to check it!"
Couple of things to make sure off first though.
Is your dipstick tube fitted with the plastic orange guide? without it you will be running the engine with far too litlle oil, its unlikely its missing but it does happen.
A check with a calibrated oil pressure guage is next provided you are absolutely sure the wiring is sound, the only way to properly check is with a multimeter and a resistance check.
I would suggest that if you want to do the repairs yourself then buy a haynes manual, the oil warning and delivery systems on the car are involved/complicated systems (depending on your experience) and your fault could be with any part of it, and the manual will give you torque settings/inspection details etc etc
good luck
Do it once and do it right! ok, we've identified the problem, lets not make it worse by guessing……… Identifying the sympton is not the same as understanding the cause

Went home to check the colour of the switch.
Upon taking the rubber boot off the switch a fair amount of oil squirted out.
I think it's safe to say that my oil leak is coming from the switch.
Ordered one (white) from GSF over the Internet, £3.66 delivered
