Car won't run when warm

Remember someone asking this ages ago, so hopefully someone can help. I've got a 1.8 carb clipper cabby. Had it out for the first time in over a year. Went for a run, but when I stopped & left it for about ten mins, then it wouldn't start. Still got power but nothing at all when I tried to start it, not even a click. This has happened before, but I hadn't been a long run until today. Anyone help

if it happens a gain, put it in 3rd gear and rock the car, then try again. had same thing in our polo, this would usually get the car going again till i replaced the starter motor

I had this problem also. It would eventually start after it cooled down.
Mine is an Auto and apparently this is a common problem due to proxim ity of starter to exhaust manifold. Replacement starter cured the issue.

Mines is also an auto box & I (hopefully) have got a fix. It happened again last night & I hadn't been much of a run. Called my mate who told me to keep the key turned right round & move the gear selector about a bit. Tried it & it started. Seems there is a switch that senses if the box is in park, if not it won't start. He said I could maybe clean it or a little rub with emery paper to clean the connection. Think I jumped to the wrong conclusion about it being warm. Hope this is the cure. Thanks for the help though.

yep as an auto it wont start in gear for obvious reasons, so in park or neutral it should not be a problem in starting however if this problem persists and it won't start in park or neutral then it may be a new starter motor.
But it is good news if that is a fix.
have you done your Auto box fluid yet?
I have not long done mine as I did not know when it had been done last.
