Battery light stays on

Fitted new battery and the batteyr light remains, it will not go out.
It was fine at 1st, car started thencut out, i tried to restart her but nothing, so i went and bought a new battery.
Starts 1st time but light remains on, i am looking at a possible fault with the alternator? if so what is it that can be causing the problem.

Also my indicators sometimes work then dont, if when i use them as usual the light on the dash stays on instead of flickering, at moment they aint working at all, puzzling me.

Last but not least i have an old fuse box in the 82 gl, with the bullet type fuses, would it be better in the long run to upgrade to a later box plus what does it entail in order to do the swap.

Thanks for taking time in reading the post, hope you can help me

Before paying anyone, remove the regulator from the alternator and check the brush lengths. These wear down over time and the battery light (think it's actually a charge light) will come on when they become to worn to deliver a charge. A new regulator came be bought for ?10-20. Haynes has the wear tolerances - think it's about 5mm.

GSF do regulators, they are a plastic module bolted to to the opposite side of the pulley, easy to get off and measure. Alternators vary depending on engine size/model/year.

R.e. the fusebox in your GL, VW changed most of the wriring looms and connectors when they phased out the bullet style box so would be a big job to swap over and not really worth it.
