Its a pretty simple job.

Jack car up nice and hight at front.

Drain oil

Whip sump off

you will then see the oil pickup attached to the pump, remove the pump bolts and remove. detatch and clean pickup. Refit new and clean parts and re fit sump. Its a good idea to fit a new sump gasket too at this point. A stanley blade or glass scraper comes in handy to remove the old gasket. Fill with oil and test.

i know this is an old post, am just about to do this very same job, apart from changing the pump.

My car is very tappety so as advised it could be blocked, would i get away with not replacing the pump.

also how do you get to the bolts that sit behind the gearbox casing

hello would advise pump change anyway will reduce noise due to better pressure they are cheap and the bolts in sump are a pain i had bendy socket extension in a cheap toolkit given to me worked a treat changing oil pump is easier also clean out sump and good oil peter

Well removed the sump, am going to get a bendy socket today for the screws as i don`t think i am gonna tighten them enough without one.

Removed the pump, and also took it apart for a clean, it looked fine so put it back in.

My only problem now is what grade oil to put in, i have a very heavy tapping head, and i removed the sump as i thought the pick up pipe could be blocked, i have had different views on what oil to use, weather to go for something really thicker like 20 x 50, or down to 5x 30 as i have been told the thicker it is, the slower it gets to the head and does not flow as easy to lubricate the tappets.

Anyone know if this is correct, and what oil would be the best to use

Cheers Kenno
