Alternator Problem
The bearings have gone in the alternator of the girlfriends MK1 1.8 Carb Cabs and the bolt that hold the alternator in is knackered and totally rounded off.
Any ideas of how to get it out ??
I have tried grips and even cutting a slot into the head of the bolt to try and use a flat headed screw driver but all to no sucess. I cant get a bigger piece in the hole as i cant get any swing on a hammer.
If anyone else has had this problem, please share how you solved it.
Thanks

I managed to get it out tonight using a stud extractor (?3.99 from local tool shop).
BIG THANKS to DANNYK for the heads up. :y:
The new alternator has now been fitted but i have now developed an electrical interference noise (coming from engine) that changes pitch with the engine speed. anyone got any ideas as to what this might be ? (dodgy earth connection on the alternator maybe, i dunno ?)
Its just been one thing after the other lately

Right then, i have been told by a mechanic that the whining / electrical interference noise that we are getting is due to the alternaot being new and the bushes inside it needing a little time to bed in.
Sounds like a super charger at the moment

What supressor ?
The new altenator has a little green box attached to it with a few wires coming out of it as standard, i never realised i need to take a supressor off the old one, any idea what it looks like ?
