advise with compression issue

hi looking for a little bit of help, done head gasket on a 1.8 8v EX code engine in a 1989 cabby golf all timed up properly and stuff now its to tight to turn over as tho it has to much compression  :roll:  do these have a headgasket thickness choice?



timed up with the right hand picture as the mark is on the rear of the pulley or are these unreliable for info?  also aligned with the punch mark in the inpsection hole

thinking of pulling the head back off to double check the gasket  :cry:

I don't suppose you made your own timing marks with Tipp-Ex before you took the cambelt off?

no as i had timed it up before i removed the head its since putting it back together its got to much compression by the sound of it when it's trying to crank over from the key

Can you turn the engine on a bar (you should have turned over the engine at least twice, just after fitting the cambelt, by hand anyway, for good practice)? If you remove the spark plugs, does it still refuse to turn over?

yeah you can turn it by hand with no issue's obviusly feel that it has compression there take all 4 plugs out and it spins over spot on  :roll:  obviusly very fast as its got no compression  but put the plugs back in and its too tight to crank over   

Sounds more like a flat battery than a too-high compression issue.

even with a booster on the battery its still the same    :twisted: just has my head done in  :dontknow:

now sorted  8)  turned out to be taking its time to get going    to long for my liking lol
