It's a lot of money to make a 20v fast, look how much smudges has spent on the ko4 turbo, will be money well spent but, it's cheaper to initially turbo a 16v.
Argument I had other week with a mate, a standard 20v makes 150/180 bhp, a cammed abf with 4 branch will make 170 ish. Turbo it and its into the 200's straight away. Unless you start your 20v with a bam engine but they're costly to buy.

Both engines will suffer with traction issues in the MK1 hence the need for a good diff to get the power down.

One thing, I'm not sure how far you can get a 20v bored too, but you can bore to a 2.1 on an abf so you have more CC's to work with there.
I'd be asking this on club Gti myself.

Did you have a diff fitted mate? How did you find traction in first and 2nd?
Im doing the 4x4 conversion.
I never had a dif fitted, 1st waste of time unlesd you feather the throttle, 2nd gear manages till full boost then slightly dtarted losing grip

Not looked into it in great detail yet but im guessing abf with kr head.
Of course internals will be uprated, if I stick with the agu lump ill bore that to 1.9 for lower compression.
