help needed - flashing light - what is it ?

can anyone help ?

I have a 1990 cabriolet & the red light under the temp gauge is flashing. What does thi smean. There is lpent of water, oil, petrol etc. It flashed straight away so it can't be temerature

There is a sender in the expansion tank. This light is controlled by that sender. It is either faulty or you have low fluid.

if you have a level sensor, disconnect the plug and bridge the pins. if that fixes it either low coolant or the sensor at fault. take sensor out and clean the terminals, if still no joy get a new one. if bridging doesnt help its the temp sensor, wiring, dash or level sensor control relay at fault.
the control relay is 42 or 43, and clipped above the fusebox, take the relay out and this will disable the level warning completly, if light persists then its the temp sensor or the clocks

My temperature light is doing exactly the same thing. My temperature gauge works just fine. There is plenty of coolant. Ive tested the sensor and that appears to work. I have removed the relay and the light kept blinking away.
Now for the tricky part….

I turn the ignition on and leave on for about 1 minute, then start the engine and the light goes out…

Im going bald through scratching my head over this one!!

any help appeciated!

try a new temp sensor
my mates pre 90 MK2 (uses same level sensor relay) did exactly the same thing.  Dash gauge worked fine, just the light. Tried everything, then eventually swapped in another sensor, sorted!  No idea why this would cause the problem yet the gauge would still work, but hey ho!
