My '65 Beetle

My '65 Beetle

After 19 years I needed to get back into a Beetle. My first car was a Miami Blue '75, and I kind of missed it. I was quite specific about what I wanted - it had to be a pre-67 in Pearl White. After nearly buying a '64 very close to home last year I ended up purchasing a '65 Herbie replica.

Full body restoration (new pans, 1/4s, wings, etc) still with original bonnet, decklid and doors. Rare Golde ragtop has been added which is great fun. Rebuilt 1600 twin port with twin IDFs, external Bugpack oil cooler and TriMil exhaust. Rebuilt box and front axle beam. All new trim, seals, etc - every part has been replaced for new including brakes, shocks, lights, stainless towel rails… Retrim with TMI seat covers and carpets. Wheels are custom made widened steels from Stockton, USA.

All the Herbie details are there (mine is a Herbie Rides Again replica) from the stripes and gumballs to the Sapphire 1 radio and Carello fog light. And what a great drive, very peppy engine surprising a few and runs fantastic. Not fun over 70 on the motorways though, I forgot how light the Beetle is and he doesn't like cross winds!

Looks fab Rajan.

Reminded of my Pearl White 1965 1300, so I've been up loft and found these photos that I've scanned in (for younger members you used to have to use a camera with film, take to Boots wait days and then after paying out ? and ? get loads of duff pics back printed on paper…..)

I had it for about 5 years in the early to mid 90s before I had to sell to pay a solictor when 1st Mrs Early cleared off  :banghead:

I have some more pics somehere taken at Worth Valley railway that look very period and some from a summers day in the country with sunlight dappling on the roof thru trees.
