Wiring Help (ignition stays on constantly)

Hi guys would like some urgent help, on my mk1 1800 the ignition stays on constantly i can start the car but cant switch off with the key. i dont know what the problem is. ive tried changing the ignition switch behind the barrel. i have disconnected the plug which goes to the ignition switch and i have change the 17 number reply which clicks when i turn the key. none of this makes any difference.

Has some good wiring diagrams [click on the top link] , it's difficult to give an exact problematic solution unless the wiring loom is standard .

Has the loom been messed with ? Have you had the ignition switch out ? [The bit under the key] These can burn out .
