Electronic ignition?

Is there an electronic ignition upgrade I can buy to replace the points in my dizzy?

I bought one for my Mini which was a direct fit inside the dizzy its self. Anything like this for a Golf dizzy?

Many Mk1 Golfs came with electronic ignition, so a dizzy, TCI and the wiring from one would work on another.

The later big block ones, I don't know which year and/or models it was introduced on. All I can say is all 3 of mine have it!

Would the tci from a 1.8 gti be alreet on a 1.5gx dya think as euro's has them for ?30?

Yes, they're all the same (and across Mk2 models too).

So this does away with the points and condensor does it?

Me mechanics trying to blag me  to do this as i dont think he can be bothered sourcing points an new condensor! Euro's didnt have 'em!

Points and condensor really should be hard to source - mind you, if only very old cars now have them, then its possible. I remember buying points a couple years ago, when I mistakenly thought my car had them (might still have them somewhere!) Possibly its because he doesn't want to reset the ignition timing and dwell, its not a common skill to have these days….

Is there an advantage with having the electronic ignition setup over the points an whatnot?

* Stronger spark
* Eliminates the need to service/change points
* Dwell doesn't go out of tune
* Ignition timing doesn't go out of tune
