why use a Jap engine though?
The type R is very capable and revvy, bags of fun so a good choice
As for getting money back, too true - although there's usually some idiot out there

:? Keeping it all German is the name of the game though surely?
Hmm…really…why?
The DC2 Type R engine has around 195bhp out of the box, NA with no modifications. So that 200+ he's claiming is no stretch. I believe the Boxes came with LSDs from factory as well.
What NA VAG would offer you that for reasonable money?
I can't think of one?
Bearing in mind its a track car, so he won't want a V6! Plus of course fitting a V6 would probably need more fabrication to fit the later Subframe set up.
I like the idea of a 1.4 TFSi conversion though, lol
Or there is of course…

But when it comes to jap and german mix, I dont like it.
To me when modding a VW all the parts should be from the VAG parts bin.
Its how the wolfsburg engineers started the whole GTi thing in the first place.

You have missed my point i think  …..German car… German engineering….improving on that with further German engineering and a German engine transplant from the same stable really is the accepted norm isnt it?
i just cant see how a Jap engine improves a VW thats all…if you want :? or even like Jap stuff :x why not just have the whole Jap car and tune that to 10000 bhp? me personally i would rather have a car knowing it was all from the same VW stable even if it was slower, but thats just a case of how much money you spend on any engine in any car, i am sure at Dub shows or in the Dub domain it would carry more cred and definately be worth more and easier to sell if it was all Volkswagen?….but a projects a project and each to there own…i wonder if its like Jap Bikes? and comes with its own repair kit sorry i just really cant see any attraction to Japanes cars…they all look like datsuns from the 80s with an ironing board on the roof or boot lid or they are great big clumsy looking wedges, everyone allways raves about the power of Jap cars….but what about anything else???…….. exactly….. but thats just my opinion though so dont be offended

Hey its all banter mate, no worries
'Accepted Norm'? How depressing true, which is why so many VW shows these das really are boring. Everyone has their own reasons for car modifying, but if someones main reasons for modifying their car are to have 'scene' credibility, increase car value, and make it easier to sell…Jes I feel sorry for them, how Soul-less.
I really did get your point, but that doesn't mean I totally agree. To me German Auto Engineering really doesn't mean much, of course its an enduring reputation that VAG very much like to play on to shift units! Ironically of course, in recent years Japanese have overtaken the 'large' German manufacturers for reliablity etc. Top Gear Survey last year had Skoda first overall. Fair play to them! Then we had….Lexus, Honda, Mazda Mini, Subaru, Toyota, Porsche. VW Were 19th. Says it all really, it really isn't just about power. VW do NOT have the edge they may have once had.
I'm playing devils advocate of course …I should say I totally understand why people would want to keep the mk1 original, it is an iconic car after all, I also understand why people want to keep modifications in the VAG stable…very simple, ease of fitting. Hell, thats what mine is!

I will say it gets away with it being a track car but what I couldn't understand is why it was featured in PVW?! Redline Magazine? Yes!
Still I don't understand why choose a VTEC over so many other engines out there. It's been done before but what about a bike engine? Or 2 bike engines? lol
And I agree with a lot of what Topoftherange is saying. At GTI International I spent over an hour in the car park looking at the Dubs. The best Dubs are the properly used Dubs, the ones driven to and from work, get the shopping etc. because thats what they were made to do - work. 8)

agree that jap engines are far superior to vag engines. so why not use it? it spices things up a bit and at the end of the day.. the guy paid his cash to but HIS mk1 and quite frankly he can do what the hell he likes with it.
Good on him for trying something different and not sticking to ' the all mighty scene'. the scene is like an old porn star… it was good once but has now done the same thing so many times it's just boring.
fair play to you!

considered doing it to a golf of some description myself for drag racing
as has been said before an easy 200bhp + is surely a good option to play on the drag strip
