You know you have gone too low when.....

Thought i would start this to see if anyone has any good stories! Seeing as i realised mine was too low and hard yesterday…

My driveway is fairly big and slopes down towards the road, but where all cars swing in to the left there is a bit of a track cut into the gravel, about 2 inches lower than the top bit by the garage…well i was moving mine out of the garage yesterday to wash and do some work and i rolled forward until the passenger side front wheel had dropped off the slight dip….this picked my rear drivers side wheel up off the floor by an inch!

So slightly uneven ground on one corner of my car will pick up the opposite corner….if that isnt dangerous i dont know what is…safe to say i have already adjusted my coilovers!

Anyone else realise they are too low?

Um, my brother lowered his first ever car (he cut the springs in half), then got stuck on one of those long speed humps, both wheels off the ground. His mate had to get out, tell the building queue of cars to reverse, then they pushed it back off the speed hump and reversed back down to the closest driveway to turn around (and hide from the embarrassment) in.

He came home soon after with pump-up shockers.

havnt slammed my mk1 sportline yet, but the sump on my VR6 mk3 often says hello to the tarmac!!! its only down about 70mm on FK Highsport coilovers now as i had to raise it a tad to get on the drive in one piece bear in mind the actaul sump is in alignment with the bottom of the front splitter more or less 8O  

my 'drive to road' route is obviously across a path, no major slope but the Mk1 is currently leaving its signature lines across the path each time i park up. Sump is currently 2 inches clear of the road, made worse by the sump being a mk2 one I suppose, just need to be more observant when I'm on country roads looking out for those hidden pot holes :-)

l had a cavi a few years ago,..l decided to lower it from being a couch on springs to 60mm with gas strut, shocks,& powerflex bushes when l did so l found it wouldn`t go up the dirt track to the house without gouging the back box. My mate wanted the 60`s for his calibra, so we swapped my 60`s for his 80`s…..the problem with the cavi was eventually solved by filling in the potholes, he on the otherhand hit a raised piece of concrete on his homes dirt track at his usual speed……and holed his sump…..  lesson learned. :wink:

I scrape over every speed bump  

I spent today trying to get my tracking setup    the 5th garage I took it too finally managed to have low enough ramps and gauages which could get on the tyres!    8)

I had an issue once, where I tried to get into the car park of a primary school, and the car physically couldn't do it. It was a bump then a slope up, nothing huge, but the way the spoiler stuck out, meant it was just the wrong shape/too low. In the end I reversed in, and it didn't scrape. Luckily, I was there to fit a tape drive to a server so I had my IT toolkit and I could reattach the spoiler.

I reckon I've whacked the spoiler off about 5 times in 1000 miles now. I'm keeping it, though, its the "early warning" for the sump scraping!

As explained above, I was fixing a tape drive on a server! They do have computers in there, you know….and they do need IT Technicians to occasionally look after them!

 mine used to be a "wildlife" plough on the Lhasa one and it wasnt even mega low, lost count how many bunnys it killed but it was double figures  had to keep getting out and picking up one side or other off the road!!! just aswell it was a genuine one and had a bit of flex :wink: pic from 1998 8O

Not great…….on towns I constantly lookout for, and drive around, any road irregularities. It jiggles on motorways and faster roads, such that I normally have to go to the toilet upon my arrival.
