Just joined today, is this club for me?
My second car, after a brief stint with a MKII escort was a MK1 golf in 1985. Can't remember much about it but it was a 1.4 in blue and the reg ended 444X Following that I had a black 1.6GTI followed by an imported, modified 1.8 GTI sprayed in grey with grey leather interior.
Those days where the best. For the last 18 years I've always looked back at the MK1 with fondness.
Whilst I currently drive a Mk5 GT TDI, (for practical reasons), I am looking now to purchase a Mk1 again.
I want it for several reasons. 1./ To play with, (on Sundays). 2./ It will have some advertising on it for my business. and 3./ (and this is where I don't know whether I'll be accepted by you lot), I have an ambition to take it to the Nurburgring in Germany to do about a hundred laps and really get the best out of it.
I havn't decided whether to do this with the original specifications etc. or whether to make some modifications to performance, handling and braking.
Maybe you could let me have your comments.
Looking forward,
Ian (Alchemyst).

If you are considering a project so you can tinker on the weekends do you think its a wise idea putting your company name all over it? so people see it with your head under the bonnet :dontknow: Just my thoughts, as every time I see a broken down truck my thoughts are that the company has a poor maintence program and buys poor vehicles - not a good company image. Don't think I'm knocking the MK1 as its a great car and good luck with your idea to do 100 laps of the 'ring (btw if you do this you'll at least need a baffled sump or you'll have engine damage after 20 laps if you push it hard)

As Danny says, we're more aimed at original cars but there's plenty of modded ones too.
Do a search for posts by member 'geezer' - he took his MK1 to Nurby last year, going this year again with a few others from here and you should also then find a very nice piccy of his Lhasa green MK1 blasting around the ring. (which made it on to our club calendar!)
Keep us posted how you get on
Cheers
