Watson hi , original rear mud flaps had a painted VW in white on them , crazyquiff has been selling some South African sets and these too are painted . Yours may be original after market one.s so what should be on there is any one's guess ?
The correct period mudflaps have the Wolfsburg logo on them and were made by Votex (as can be seen on orginal cars - my Dad ordered his Formel E with them and they are in the VW Accessory brochures), not the VW symbol. VW then released the mudflaps with the VW symbol on during the life of the Mk2 I think, probably because of markets like South Africa requiring them as a bad road package. By then VW seemed to distance themselves from the Wolfsburg logo found commonly on Beetles, etc. They probably would have changed the steering wheels too had it not have been for the cost of the tooling change.
Your mudflaps may be the ones for the Mk2 made by Quantum which had seprate badges according to the model (e.g. "Golf", etc)
Cheers
