Does it fit?
Can anybody help me with fitting CEG gearboc from MK3 Polo to my MK1 with GF (1.3) engine? I know that i need to fabricate new gearbox holder, no problem at all, but my question is: Will the axels fit to gearbox flange? I know that 8P gearbox will fit, but i heard that CEG one is different. Is it true?
Second question is if someone have gearspeed ratios for CEG gearbox and also for the original 4 speed gearbox?
I lost couple of hours with finding with no usable answer.
Thanks a lot.

Be careful when making the mount as a few mm off and the engine will sit crooked.
Roach has one for sale at the moment 😉

The link you sent just send me to a GTI forum homepage. Did you mean that I have to find it myself, or there is a some problem?

The linkage is the same, the bolts to the block all line up but one and you'll soon figure out which one it is that isn't used.
The speedo drive will need to come from your old one.
Clutch cable is the same.
Drive shafts are the same.
If you continue to use the original fly wheel then the starter motor can be your original as far as I'm aware.
Whilst you have it off you might as well do the clutch and thrust bearing as its very annoying when you find it needs replacing after the fact.
What you may find though is that the Ratios are weird for a smaller cc standard engine.
The GT type boxes are low ratio and you may find that 5thbis pretty much the same as your current 4th.
If you go with the 8p and other economy boxes you will have too keep changing out of 5th as you'll have no power at the low revs in 5th.
Unless you're doing massive motor way miles on a flat motorway I wouldn't bother if I were you.
Jaxvine weird the link should send you to club polo.
Do a Google search, there is a nice guide to the Ratios in the boxes but my phone sees it as a download and I can't link it to here.

The cases look the same, but to be honest I don't know. If it's local it might be worth having a look. if it's cheap it might be worth a punt and then possibly stripping it and your box down and swapping the internals maybe?
The shifter linkage may be different but it might be strippable. Especially if you have another gearbox with all the bits on it you need.
Check the measurements of the cup size just to be sure.
If it's from an engine with the 3 stud rocker cover I don't see why it wouldn't as they are all small blocks and the block didn't change.
Yup tracking them down on ebay is a pain as they're getting slim on the ground these days. Facebook polo pages might be a better idea.
