Problem when returning to start the golf after 15 mins standing
Hoping some kind Gti guru can help.
My Gti seems to have developed a fault.
When i go for a drive and park it up for 15 or longer it turns over for 20 seconds and fires up, it coughs and splutters into life running rough for a 10 seconds before returning to normal running.
It started last weekend and ever since does the same.
Not a clue where to start.
It is a 1981 1.6 no mods.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.
Where are my DIY Links?

Have you checked the Duty Cycle on the CIS as that is Critical and one of the first things to check.
Could also be the Check valve that is stuck open allowing the fuel in the lines to bleed off…but the 4 second prime of the fuel pump should resolve that.
When you try to start the car, (I have seen this many times) do you wait for 4-5 seconds before turning it to start?
Daughter had this issue on my 92, and before I changed out the wonky two pumps for 1, wouldn't wait for the fuel system to pressurize so she flooded the car EVERY-Time EFI behaves differently low pressure and the injectors firing would dribble fuel in to the Cylinders….. Even got my wifey to wait….(she is very stubborn to teach, as she was raised in Al A flipping bama).

I will have a look in the morning.
I always wait for the fuel pump and then turn it over.
