Need some assistance please. I am installing some Audi 80 VDO gauges to my MK1 Golf GTi. Below is a pic of the gauges. So far I have for the Volt Meter and all lights, positive & negative wiring installed. The only 2 wires left are the the oil temp & oil pressure sender units.
I appreciate if you can advise me what part number oil pressure sender unit I need (upto 5 bar) and how I install it.
For the oil temp, should I attach the wire to the existing oil temp sender connection which is connected to the MFA? Will there be any side effects having connections from 2 separate gauges to the single oil sender unit?
Thanks

for oil temp you need another sensor for that too, 049919563B 0-180 for your 0-170 degree audi gauge

I assume it'll make the gauge show the oil temp is slightly higher than it really is, which tbh makes the gauge more useful as if everything is spot on with the right sensor in it'll hardly lift off the stop! The first bar off the main line is 90 degrees and thats pretty much the max you'll see it at. leaving almost the entire gauge wasted
would be far better if it was 0-130 ish. Heres the proper MJK1 gauge, can see the temp range is slightly more useful than the audi version:

I agree with Rubjonny, the Audi gauge doesn't really give enough usefull info for a Golf, maybe one day when I locate a set of Golf VDO gauges I'll replace them!

Thanks for the info. I managed to battle out the oil pressure switch as I didn't have a socket size over 22mm, so had to remove the oil pressure hoses and WUR out of the way to make way for my adjustable spanner.
The oil pressure switch is 1.8 bar so will be source the correct sender unit.
Will check the existing oil temp sender rating.
I probably will need to use a tee joint to accommodate the new oil pressure switch and oil temp gauge.
Will keep everyone posted.

Hi all,
Ref the temp sender for the audit VDO gauge, I understand I need to buy a new one as I cannot use the existing temp sender on the housing as shown in the pic.
I want to keep the existing sender to give reading to the MFA and would like to install a new one for the VDO. I understand that you cannot tee-off temp senders as they will give inaccurate readings. Is this correct?
What is the best way to connect the secondary oil temp gauge?
I appreciate if anyone can share pics on how their oil pressure and oil temp senders are set up.
Thanks

for the oil temp its fine to use a T piece, just some of them are a bit rubbish and you find the switch in the side cuts off oil flow to the one in the end if you get me. VW Heritage have a decent VDO make one

Hi all,
Just an update. I installed a T piece over the oil filter housing. Installed the original sender unit (1.8 bar) and fitted a new oil temp sender unit which works.
The issue I'm having is with the oil pressure gauge. I installed a new oil pressure sender to the side of the engine block. It has a rating of 0.3 bar and 5 bar for the VDO. When I start the car, the needle shoots past 5 bar on the vdo gauge and the red flashing light for oil pressure appears on the dash not stop.
The oil pressure sender unit is compatible with the Audi 80 VDO gauges installed.
I checked the oil level to rule out the red flashing light and it is perfect.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

When the car is started cold, then the pressure is showing around 0.5 bar, but as soon as the engine is normal operating temperature, the gauge shoots past 5 bar. When I disconnect the wire from the sender unit, it still shoots past 5 bar.
The oil light flashes regardless of whether the engine is hot or cold.
Very confused.

You mentioned that you have the same Audi 80 guages as mine. Can you pls share a pic of the temp and oil pressure senders you have fitted to your car? Also please can you advise where you purchased your senders from?
Thanks

If I disconnect the wire from the MFA, then the light turns off.
Tomorrow I will short the wires to the earth and advise the results.
It's dark, cold and raining now.
Cheers
