Why would you do this in a KR conversion?

Instead of the braided line entering the engine bay from down by the rack and coming along the driver's side inner wing, filter king bracketed there and then a short run of hose to the carbs, it enters, swings all the way around to the pass. side, filter king is on a bracket by the battery, then around to the carbs. It's ugly, has way too tight radius bends in it, and I don't understand! Is there a good reason for it taking this circuitous route? You might see it, stainless overbraid, all around the engine bay:

I am thinking of running the fuel line from where it enters the bay along the Driver's side inner wing, mounting the Malpassi FPR there on a bracket that is available, and running a very much shorter fuel line to the driver's side of the first carb. Loses about 3 metres of braided hose! It should look a lot neater and have some more sensible curves, meaning less stress and pulling on the connections.
There are so many of these little (!) jobs to do. I don't know if there's a relay on the fuel pump and as my kids will eventually travel in the car, I'm keen to make it safe. Similarly why it might be an idea to put a heat barrier between the exhaust manifold and the steering column boot!
