FYI.
You probably don't know and it's best not to ask why but a few years back we had, well let's say a situation with and I'll even abbreviate the name to 'DD'.
It was serious and we'd prefer if they were not mentioned.
You've done nothing wrong ok! 👍

I have owned a few Oettinger Mk2 Golfs including the black G plate in the above picture. I sold it about seven or eight years ago to a very nice guy from just outside Manchester who I think was a joiner. I saw him with the car a few years back at VW Northwest in Tatton Park. That was a very nice mk2 but the engine is only a 1.8 (1800E) that has has been mildly tuned by Oettinger. It was still a very quick car and very tight too. This was one of the straightest Mk2 I've owned and it was a real pleasure to drive. I gave the owner a letter from Oettinger confirming the engine and I also gave him an original copy of a Oettiger brochure that showed the power and cost of each conversion. The 2000E was the most powerful approved VW 16v 2ltr engine conversion and it was based on a KR engine. The later models like yours did not have the fancy inlet manifold but the original manifold was modified internally. There is a Oettinger owners club website but it's very quiet and can take months to get a reply but they are very knowledgeable. I should have some pictures of the black G plate one on an old computer at home including ones taken before I purchased it. I have a copy of the Oettinger brochure from 1989 somewhere too. Hope this info helps.
There is a owners club?? I've looked everywhere and haven't heard anything about a club?? Also that's some good info, finding any info other then what I have with the car has been hard work. Even Oettinger weren't very helpful when they eventually replied which took a month

I owned this one too and sold it to Karl as I just wanted to concentrate on my Mk1's after becoming a father to two boys. This was a 2000E with a huge list of optional extras including a beautiful black leather recaro interior. This was a car that Scott had on display at the 1989 motorshow.
Sorry which one are you referring to? This is getting slightly confusing lol

I previously owned the Black G plate 1800E and the Blue F plate 2000E with the unusual four lamp grill. I have never owned the Blue 2000E that is in the first posts. Am just trying to get an old computer up and rinning to look for pictures of them when I owned them and also the literature that I scanned for future reference.

Hey mate, this is getting so confusing, can you please draw a nice and simple 'Family Tree' of the ones you've owned, not owned, seen, not seen but a bloke down the pub heard from a mate that his brother in law might have one! 😂
Just to clear it up of course. 👍

Sounds good! I know they only made 25 of mine with a mixture of the 2000e 16v vs and a couple of G60s

Hi, yes the guy was a joiner (Peter Moores) and is a customer of mine at my garage in Manchester. We recommissioned the car after a long lay up and he was considering selling it. The outcome was i paid him a lump of cash and wrote his bill off. Thank you for the info you supplied it was exactly what i wanted to know about the car as it had been a bit vague as to what Oettinger had done on the engine. I don't wish to sell the car as i am enjoying driving it but out of interest how would you value it as i am not well up Golfs especially Oettingers. Many thanks again for your assistance. Bill.
As a point of reference I have a agreed value for 10k as is but will be getting a new independent valuation once it is all finished at the body shop. Not sure what that will go to when it's finished but will let you know

Yes your correct, The later 2000E engines used the chain driven cams with various profiles. There is an engine in bits on ebay with some good pictures.

I'm glad it's gone to a good home and Peter is ok as he wasn't well last time I saw him. As for the value I'm going to struggle as they seem to be advertised for high prices but at the end of the day they are only worth what people are prepared to pay. I sold it about seven years ago for around £2800 but I'm sure it's worth more than double that now as apart from it having the Oettinger engine it was a very tidy original example of a mk2 in it's own right. I have just found some pictures of when I bought it so will post them when I get more time. I have also found a copy of the Oettinger literature so can forward that on or post it on the forum.

Hi!Am I right thinking that the Kr based oettinger engines kept the chain driven cams, as the gear driven ones were from the Oettinger 16v 2000e head?As my car has the chain set up, with what I believe is an unrated inlet cam It's all coming out soon, so the investigations will begin

Will keep a eye on that engine! Very interesting one! I'm fairly certain mine has gear driven cams from what I understand but I could be wrong. I was told they were but until I see it for myself I wouldn't put money on it!

I've also had the paperwork come through from the previous owner with some more info on the model. Apparently they did three different engines, it's just nice to get some more info rather then the photos of the paperwork I was given when I bought it and he was moving house
