Cylinder Head Off & Rebuild
The engine smokes when warm so the jobs I'm thinking are the o ring replacement in the inlet manifold as suggested by rubjonny then valve stem oil seals. Obviously headgastet and new cambelt.
Not sure I have the confidence or tools to complete the job but would like to learn by watching/assisting someone who does. I could tax the car and take it some random local garage and pay them but would prefer it done at home again by someone who knows their Golf engines.
I will pay the going rate and provide the tea!
Thanks

If you do not get offers of help I would suggest having a go yourself! There is loads of information on here, in Haynes manuals and on various internet sites that can help you with your project.
If you get stuck at any point just post a few pictures on here, ask a few questions and you will be given some good advice!
Will your car be off the road all winter? If so then i think you should definately have a crack at it!
I would love to come and help you do it all, I only live in Derby and have basic tools but right now all of my spare time is spent decorating and getting Goly (my Golf) ready for the bodyshop!
You will have a great sense of achievement if you manage to do it yourself and the first time your engine starts after the big strip down you will be grinning from ear to ear!
Good luck with your car whatever you decide and if you do get extremely stuck just give me a shout and I will see if I can help.

in all honest it sounds harder than i actually is
it's pirtty straight forward even more so on a carb engine
once it's off
there's a place in kegworth near notts that can skim your head, do all the seals and valve lapping, preasure test for you well worth it imo
get the tools out
Thanks Jelly
Can you send me the name of said company and I will paso them how much they are going to charge for the work once head is off

Thanks Britney
Was planning on car being off road over winter however the wife has shown a keen interest in using it and selling her daily. Would live to have a go it was just a time thing as I'm also in the middle of DIY jobs.
I've got a Haynes manual and some tools and it's in the garage so all good. It's just my luck I'd end up stripping bolts and get stuck.
Thanks for the post though
