It's so close to being finished. I'm just waiting for some bolts from VW and I can put the engine back together and pop it in!

Hopefully I'll make it to Inters but will definitely be at the AGM  

Liking the progress mate.

Love the powder coated bits, they look proper nice.

We still haven't seen pics of the finished interior yet though.

Hi there MOO. I see it's coming along very nice. And you think you are taking a long time then you should have a look at mine. Shell has been at the body shop for a year now but hoping to get it this weekend since I have a load of work to do on it and almost everything to be replaced. But good luck and I'm looking to seeing the end result.  

Anyone who saves a little engine version instead of GTi-ing everything in sight gets my vote!  Catching stuff as early as you have means it should last you easily for another 20 years. Top stuff, Moo.

Well, the engine is back in but it won't start. Process of elimination and all that leads us to the starter motor so we'll see what happens there - fingers crossed!

My car will be far from a show car. I'm just going for a 'nice example', nothing special plus I just want in back on the road now and will replace things over time.

I can understand now how people fall out with them and sell them on as projects  

Sounds like the starter motor to me Moo from what you have posted. Had to replace mine too. Good luck getting her going again

It had a hot start problem when I took if off the road so it's probably had enough now - it could be 30 years old for all I know!

It was the starter motor - at least every connection got a good clean in the process  

Now, for some reason, my speedo has turned into a rev counter!  

It's just one thing after another with Mk1's isn't it Moo

Sjo the litte MK1 is really making you sweat hey. But in the end will be worth all the hard word and in the process you get to learn allot about your MK1. Keep going you're doing a great job so far.
 

It is, Smudge - what's annoying is that I've done 5 miles without actually moving!  

I'm going to check every earth in there today, see what's what.

I was only saying yesterday that when the engine first came out it looked like a complicated mess, it now looks so simple to me.

I don't know everything and there's definitely more to learn but it's an experience that's taught me a lot.

m00 just read your thread from start to finish. Excellent work! I will look out for it at GTI International if you are going.

All going well it should be there but it won't be on the Mk1OC stand though
