But heres the photos of it, still got the original dealer number plate holders and stickers in windows. Its got a few dents and scuffs, but as (i was told) its been garaged all its life Im hoping there is little rust or corrosion. Being a 3 door GL (did we get these in the uk??) its got lots of nice chrome bits and a great interior which I just love!

My plans are in this order:
- Good wash and valet
- Service & MOT (source parts I need for this? do I need new headlights? and what about the speedo?)
- Fix any problems I might find
- Coilovers
- Wheels
- Then gradually tidy up dents and paint as I go.

So fingers crossed it gets to me in 1 piece! I should get it monday or tuesday. Then I will get the chance to have a good look over it and see what sort of condition its actually in Fingers crossed it will be as good as it looks.

I'm Newbie to the site so I've just been looking through the posts and came across your story. Having looked through endless pages of Mk1's for some time this one looks great. Please post photo's of the arrival….fingers crossed!

Yeah I'm still looking I saw one on autotrader but not really what I want. I think it will take a while as I'm trying to track one of previously owned cars down.

Yeah it seems to take ages to find a good one! I was into aircooled vw's before, and its much easier to find a nice old 60's beetle than it is to find a good mk1! Best of luck tracking down, have you found out whether it still exists?

the car I'm looking for was my first car (and VW) after passing my test, it was a mk1 gti and my memory is telling me the reg was A202 (I can't find the photo's to confirm) and I was advised it had a centre spread in a car mag which I'm trying to track down also. the quest continues…Ronnie85 said

another LHD on the site, then, and a nice-looking one too - congratulations.
In answer to your question, about headlights, yes you will need new ones since the dip will be to the wrong side.
I may be interested in the old ones if they are in good condition, so hang on to them!
