Could I just not use one of these? Get rid of the points?

If you're fitting the bike carbs on your original mk1 engine then this is the best ignition setup to use

Mk2 polo ignition can only be used with the later hydraulic tappet engines

Awesome cheers! I messaged you the other week about bike carbs manifolds. You still making them? If so, fancy making me one?

Hi, sorry for being rude, I'm a little bit busy at the minute but I will reply with more details when I get a chance

Thanks,

Nah, just the strip clean and rejet and rolling road. Half way through of making a manifold![]()
Yes I took mine to Boggs to have it set up

Don't pay for a strip and clean, they pretty much do that as an integral part of the rolling road session

What engine is fitted in your golf? originally and the new engine?
The reason I ask, is you should only need to fit a new ignition system i.e Polo mk2 is if the engine was previously running fuel injection and you wanted to loose the injection ecu and wiring from the engine bay to tidy it up.
Your standard coil and distributor WILL work perfectly providing you have the vacuum pipe outlet on the new inlet manifold.
For the electronic ignition kit, if you have a Bosch distributor then its no trouble what so ever, a real doddle to fit and a real benefit to the engine however, If your distributor is a Ducellier then fitting the electronic ignition kit may be a struggle as or at least it was when I bought mine last year, no-one makes a kit for it. I had to fit a Kit for a Austin Metro which screwed in lovely but rendered the vacuum advance inoperative, that was ok by me though as mine didn't work anyway…
hope that helped
If you want the workshop manual for the GSX-R 600, which has some basics on the carbs and fuelling then visit here and DL the PDF.

I'm sure the engine is the same, it came from a 1.3 MK1 Golf, However, I swear on my old engine it has 4 points, and on the new one it only has two? Not sure, I'll have to check when I get my car back on Thursday.
Thanks, that's summed up a few things for me, will be even cheaper for me to install bike carbs

P.S What's the difference between GSXR600 SRAD carbs and normally GSXR600 carbs?
Thanks.

Ahh right cool. Would I be able to rejet them at home? (Is it a hard/complicated thing to do?) £80 for rolling road? That's well good. Only live like 25 minutes away from there too![]()
They will drill the jets to the right size as part of the rolling road session too

Seriously all you need to do is buy carbs - make manifold - fit both - drive to Boggs. They'll do the rest

Sweet! What about a new choke cable and throttle cable? Do I need new ones? Been told I have. Sorry for all the questions lol, Just want to make sure I know about it before I start doing it
