I got me a Golf gx
Was a nice sunny day walking my dog when i saw that the cover had blown of the old mans car and to my supprise it was a mk1 golf what perfect exuse to make an apperance and warn its owner of the coming good old british raincloud on the horizon?
Anyways after dinging the old boys bell for a min, he came to the door with a pre prepared speech for me regarding his mk1 mentioning how it was worth more to him to have it around for the rest of his days, than to srap it (AGREED)
he litterally must have seen me coming.
So after i had identified myself a freindly and a bit of a friendly face off about who love cars more, I started winning the old boy round by showing him some pics of mates cars mk1s mk4 golfs and a reletives camper! As fate would have it the old chap had a mobility scooter he was having troubles with and asked me if i would take a look for him, now we are friends, and soon after that a deal was struck
This is her….A 1983 4 door 1.5 golf gx,. with what i know now to be a (rare?) bbs spoiler for wait for it ……………….$100 (I don't have a pound key)
A bit more info…The car was originally bought by a woman back in 83 from new, then the old fella aquired it in 1985 with 25000miles on the clock The car now sits on my drive with 26800 miles on her.
Now at this point i might mention the severe lack of history as in NONE, the old guy had a bonfire sometime last year
he asures me the mileage checks out and who am i to question the credibility of an an old war vet at the ripe old age of 92! he says allough he is fond of cars he dosent actually like to drive and so the golf did minimal very small trips (probably at 28 mph) to the buthchers and greencrocers once a week!
this was until soon after he bought a automatic hyundai with was apparently much more to his liking? lol and so the golf sat still in the garage for many years up until his hyundai broke down and he fired the old girl up in 2009 for an mot the car as it would past with flying colours and all was fine and dandy for the old boy until one day as the result of severe cataracts and a bit of steam in the cockpit from the wash he had just gave her at the garage, he caught the end of a small 2ft wall he has along side his drive way unfortunatly the old boys ears arnt what they once were too and
he didnt notice until he drove a distance the lenth of the car Ouuuuch!
and so the doors are damaged but it will polish out im sure
also the seats dont look like they have ever been sat on.
original cigaret lighter, unused astray all nice too see in an old car.
unmarked roof lining and the old two knob job soundsystem! unfortunatly the airiel wasnt one of the things that got left unscaved.
ofcourse im going to attempt to restore her a little, treat her to some new legs, sexy shoes and a full respray.
right now im rambling on a bit or rather A LOT here i know, only i have a question or rather 2 , the first bieng for insurance purposes and for the sake of curiosity? what do i value her at?
I have heard that a good gx with such low milage is a motor of ever increasing rareity and so might be worth a pretty little penny?? Im unsure myself?
secondly how worried should i be about the severe lack of history should i come to sell her in the future? as i dont plan on any major road trips the mileage should stay very low
Any input at all really would be helpfull.
Thanks for reading Gav.

that rear wing/ spoiler is amazing, the car looks very rust free

Thanks mate! The spoiler is for sale on here I have spent a while now wondering if to keep it or not? I decided against it in the end..
As for the car itself Its defiantly not rust free, There are little surface spots of rust doted here and there
Thankfully nothing worth worrying too much about. Looks like I caught It at the right time.
I am Very happy with it though

I thought I might share some ideas I have for the old gal… And to just generally rabble on a bit like I know what I'm doing 8)
Right After MUCH deliberation on where to take the styling, all the way from early series 1 rear panel and small lights and a trip to the painters For a nice coat of Copper/brown or maybe an early pastel color finished in chrome bumpers, door hadles (all four of them) chrome waist line trims. And of-course
a roof rack or a bike rack for a cheeky 80s bmx.
Now Because of the scale of work involved my limited expertise Not to mention the budget or rather the lack of budget and not for the better I decided against it and to keep things simple! After all seems kinda sacrilegious to me to whop out a perfectly good motor with such low milage only for it not to work as it did, or generally creating unnecessary problems, In short and probably for the best haha I'm too bloody scared…
And so at 5:19pm on monday 11/6/2012 The plan "for now" is to keep her Diamond silver and just have a respray without the hassle of under the bonet to deal with or at least for now anyway….
Now i am keen to mix it up (A bit) and maybe introduce a little splash of colour about.. In moderation of-course.
The plan as allways been to get some bbs splits rs/rm's. I used to own a set back in…where was it again… oh yeah DREAMLAND!!! Oh well I may settle for a set of bbs mahle's or some other tidy weave type rim, and regretably I'm sure some cheep coilovers.
Being silver I feel I'm going to be limited in what colours to introduce?? That said I think this could work well, what do you guys think?

I think the orange could work on some other parts too like the rear beam and possibly a few select parts under the bonnet. could always throw some porsche d90s on for a touch more…well Porsche !!
