When it rains over night, the rear footwell passenger side has a pool of water in it and kind of the front passenger side but more just soggy in the front.
the right side of the car is totally dry all the time.
anyway..
ive checked the seels, there ok, i cant understand where its coming from. ive tried spraying the whole car with the hose pipe and staying in the car (there was two of us lololol)
the only thing i noticed was this thingy
http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Scuttle-Rain-Cover-Golf-Mk1-Cabrio-Caddy-all-P-10-171819415F_act_shop.product_pID_51591806_lang_EN_country_GB.htm?crumbStartPage=3&crumbStartRow=51
on it the thing that sticks up has a hole in it. could this cause this?
has anyone experienced this?
thanks guys!

Well it would help if you posted a picture but I'm not sure that's your problem.
Mines a lefty but I had the same problem BIG time.
Left and right under the 'Scuttle Cover' down in the corners there are drain holes.
One you can see, the other is more difficult depending on year and model.
These drain holes get full of cr^p (leaves and stuff) and become blocked, as did one of mine, the hidden one!
If they are blocked that whole area, like a trough in the bulk head will fill up with water and it will find a way through into the car.
Check those and the amount of water and where you find it will be determined by the angle it's parked at.
Nose down hill and more to the passenger side for example, then more water front right.
Other way round the balance of the car changes and so on…
Mine was bad because the VW main dealer after doing some miner work, put the BL00DY car through the automatic car wash!
Bad photos but you get the idea, well hopefully!
Passenger side rear.
Drivers side rear.
I took around 40Ltrs of water from the floor and carpets, it took five days even though every day the temp was above 35 degrees and I keep the top down!
Just a thought and I hope that's your only problem.

I traced the front leak to the rubber washer being missing from the centre window wiper spindle, where the spindle meets the body work, they are still availiabe from vw, item number 191955265.
The water was running into the shuttle under the spindle and then dripping down through the heater box and onto the carpet under the centre consul, the pipe it was dripping out from is facing the passenger footwell. Any way washer replaced and now dry carpet in the front. Also if the black plastic shuttle tray is broken water may run into the heater box as this is there to protect it.
I am still working on the rear wet carpet leak, i have found i have a leak some where in the rear passenger boot area, as my car is parked nose down on a slope water is running from the boot along the thick black electric cable and ending up in the rear foot well. I now have a towel in the boot to soak any water up, but have not traced the source of the leak yet. I am thinking either the rear light seal or some where along the hatch line.
Hope this helps

I have a post on a similar problem, with mine the passenger foot well front and back was soaking wet but the driver side was always dry.

Christmas Andy, reading that I was beginning to think you're parking your car in a lake, either that or you have a Cabrio and you can't put the top up anymore and the boot won't close!
Good info mate.

Also, do i need to lift up the carpet to let it dry out? or can I just wait for it to dry by maybe getting some heat on it?
