Poor Old GTi :0(

Been to look at a car today and found this :0(  
It has been used for spares, bits of the engine missing, no back seats, sunroof missing etc etc, he said i could have it for a few hundred quid, less the doors….
Beyond repair i think :0( very sad

I thought my luck was in then. I'm trying to find an image of the dealer logo for the rear window who sold my car and came across this thread and spotted the number plate. Its missing the back window sticker also!    

This must be my cars poor cousin!!

Perhaps I should rescue it. Was there any paperwork with it?

Old log book (old style) few M.o.t's etc,he had a folder with some paper work in.

are they brother and sister though? the registrations may be numerically ordered but to be brother and sister they would need to be cut from the same cloth as it were! eg, consecutive VIN numbers!!

so perhaps they are the offspring of unrequited love?! (or just a couple of bar stewards)?  :wink:

dont look to bad. not couple of hundred though. offer him a ton see if he bites. mention that scrap is cheap as chips right now. tell him to pay you to take it away.

Scrap value could easily be ?100 but not a few hundred.

That said, the price of old bangers has gone silly. The only stuff around in the ?200 mark has blown engines, for something ratty with an MOT you're looking at ?300 - ?400!! It wasn't long ago you could pick up something with a few months MOT for ?100 or so. I got a Volvo 360 with 6 months MOT for ?50 a few years ago.

Bought the local free ads paper today, first time in ages.  The "cars under ?500" section used to be huge. There were about 10 cars in there today, and they're all "head gasket" jobs.


 

Couldn't see go for scrap, not just yet anyway. Managed to haggle him down a bit but he wanted the doors regardless.

Apart from the back panel and the roof the shell seems pretty good. Its full of water so the floor must be pretty good! I have seen a lot worse.









I have some injector pipes, I might run a seperate fuel pump and jerry can to it and see if I can get it going. I wouldn't trust whats in the original tank although the filler neck isn't rotten. Don't think I trust that universal filler cap.

seeing any Mk1 go for scrap is just wrong
