Pinning topics for points - Announcing a change

Hi,

There are quite a lot of people pinning topics in exchange for points they receive for using the forum - I like this feature a lot as it allows people to contribute and emphasise what they are up to.

However these topics get pinned for ever and this creates a lot of "old topic" noise at the top of every forum.

We have introduced a maximum topic pinning duration of 7 days, at which point it will be automatically unpinned - if you still want to emphasise your topic you can pin it again.

As a bonus you can now spend less points as it now only costs 30 points per day to pin.

I will be unpinning all topics so that we start from scratch on the pinned topics that appear.

 

Thanks Ade, I just found out when I wanted to 'pin' my topic from my road trip to the AGM 2013.

I want to pin it so that the story continues from 13 to 14 but for 7 days I don't think it's worth it.

Yes if I need to sell something in a hurry, then it's handy but…

Oh and when I did try to pin it I got this:
"Critical error - bailing out

This is an error that has been elevated to critical error status because it occurred during the primary error mechanism reporting system itself (possibly due to it occuring within the standard output framework). It may be masking a secondary error that occurred before this, but was never output - if so, it is likely strongly related to this one, thus fixing this will fix the other.
A query that had to return something returned nothing: SELECT t_pinned FROM ocp_f_topics WHERE (id=1224629) (version: 9.0.5, PHP version: 5.3.20, URL: /index.php?page=pointstore&type=___topic_pin&id=topic_pin)

will this affect my cotm stuff? i normally leave it pinned for the duration

No mate, mods can pin and unpin - only pinning that is bought with points - often folk forget they have pinned and it cloggs the top of the forums up.
