the dream..........

bloody horrific!

    at the end of the day mate, just be happy with how you style it and enjoy it

what about chinese door handles? like what's on Corrados? or is it just the fact that the door handles stick out that you don't like?

I'll dig out a pic of some flush handles for you, bit of work and requires cutting/welding mind

sounds like your going to be busy though, will you be doing most of the work yourself?

I'm more interested in what's happening under the bonnet, but if its going to have a 225bhp 20vT then its going to be all show AND go! So it gets my thumbs up!

im feelin them porche handles, I dont mind them sticking out, I just dont like em! I cant say why I just dont.

Im hoping with a lil help, an guidance, and a lot of reading, and a bit of practice I can do the majority of the work myself, and then really feel I have worked for the finished article, as paying for it to be done lacks the fun, and I wanna increase my knowledge anyway.

Im not gonna stick a limit on how long, but Id love to be driving it come next summer.

yeh dark grey, black leather seats and door cards, audi tt dash, tt engine, polished bbs rim, highly i may add, an I think it may work with chrome swages, chrome grill surround, de badged though, single headlights, crystal type, mirrors, ok i think bin the dtms, ive seen a few styles that I like, lil tiny ones, flared arches, smoothed tailgate, keyless entry, so dunno what to do with them bleedin door handles, smallish stainless exhaust, not a fan of big boomin exhaust, small rear bumber, in black or chrome, and I quite fancy the no valance look to the front.

there, that is a not too different version of what i had walked in here with, now with studying alot of pictures, an a lil help from some folk who know, I have a more mk1 friendly idea of what I am gonna do……

dare I say it? hows this sound?

You'll never win me over regards the dash
But as for the rest  :y:

Good luck with it

I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines :o

Is the car Dutch? If so, I think I know it. I remember it from Edition 37 show, its a very well executed VR6 conversion using 6 ITBs, it has all sorts of little tricks like narrowed axles, etc.

The mk1 golf needs nothing other than a set of wheels and some magic under the bonnet, obviously brakes/suspension to suit.

That looks subtle Stevie, I like it!

til I decide on a plan for the door handles it'll have to do, a slight flaring of the arches wont go a miss either 8)

Basiclally have 2 sets of doors for the mot.

I asume 2 shedded doors with handles.

And your two mint doors with no handles.

I know im smoothing my door handles.

Its not an mot failier in itsself is it, you jsut need 3 (I think) points of access to the car.

But do solinoids not count as an exit/entry?

Got to be ways round it i see cars with no door handles all the time.

And im the uk that is.

I think evrythings achevable.

To a certain extent.

Its a grey area in terms of MoT:

Mot manual said

A lack of door handles because of original design characteristics or specialist modification is not a reason for rejection providing the door can be latched securely in the closed position.

Mot manual said

Check also that front doors can be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle

So, the door needs to be able to be opened from outside the vehicle…..

Now, if you were in an accident and the paramedic was first on the scene and you were unconcious, they're going to need to get into the car. So I'd interpret the second quote from the manual as anyone needs to be able to open the door, not just the person with the solenoid remote. But MoT testers may vary….

dont most hot rods with no door handles have an emergency door popper in the wheel arch or somewhere?

Post

Well obviously youd put the solanoid on the outside somwere, wing mirror etc

Plus you could have one of those door releases.

So basically can be doen still.

Plus the fact you could swap the doors as i said.

And if i crash, gutted.
